چکیده

Nonlocal gravity is the recent classical nonlocal generalization of Einstein’s theory of gravitation in which the past history of the gravitational field is taken into account. In this theory, nonlocality appears to simulate dark matter. The virial theorem for the Newtonian regime of nonlocal gravity theory is derived and its consequences for “isolated" astronomical systems in virial equilibrium at the present epoch are investigated. In particular, for a sufficiently isolated nearby galaxy in virial equilibrium, the galaxy’s baryonic diameter D0—namely, the diameter of the smallest sphere that completely surrounds the baryonic system at the present time—is predicted to be larger than the effective dark matter fraction fDM times a universal length that is the basic nonlocality length scale λ0 ≈ 3± 2 kpc.

Study of Solar Magnetic and Gravitational Energies Through the Virial Theorem

Virial theorem is important for understanding stellar structures. It produces an interesting connection between magnetic and gravitational energies. Using the general form of the virial theorem including the magnetic field (toroidal magnetic field), we may explain the solar dynamo model in relation to variations of the magnetic and gravitational energies. We emphasize the role of the gravitatio...

GRAVITATIONAL EQUILIBRIUM in THE PRESENCE of a POSITIVE COSMOLOGICAL CONSTANT

We reconsider the virial theorem in the presence of a positive cosmological constant Λ. Assuming steady state, we derive an inequality of the form ρ ≥ A(Λ/4πGN ) for the mean density ρ of the astrophysical object. The parameter A depends only on the shape of the object. With a minimum at Asphere = 2, its value can increase by several orders of magnitude as the shape of the object deviates from ...

We show that it is not possible in the absence of dark matter to construct a four-dimensional metric that explains galactic observations. In particular, by working with an effective potential it is shown that a metric which is constructed to fit flat rotation curves in spiral galaxies leads to the wrong sign for the bending of light i.e. repulsion instead of attraction. Hence, without dark matt...

Nonlocal General Relativity

A brief account of the present status of the recent nonlocal generalization of Einstein’s theory of gravitation is presented. The main physical assumptions that underlie this theory are described. We clarify the physical meaning and significance of Weitzenböck’s torsion and emphasize its intimate relationship with the gravitational field, characterized by the Riemannian curvature of spacetime. ...

A Sharp Form of the Virial Theorem

In its classical form the Virial Theorem concerns the behavior of a system S of n mass particles acting under Newtonian attraction in such a fashion that the center of mass 0 remains fixed and the potential energy V satisfies V> — <*> for all positive time t. The latter condition, which is not always stated explicitly, guarantees the analyticity of the coordinates of the particles in the indepe...
